Insitu Pacific is renewing beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) Remotely Piloted Aircraft authorisations in the Coominya (YBCM) area and is looking to engage with local users.
Insitu Pacific has been conducting fixed wing BVLOS Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) operations from YBCM since 2015 for the purpose of pilot training and platform development. We are currently renewing our approval with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and welcome stakeholder engagement from airspace users regarding our continued operations in the area.
Insitu Pacific's Coominya operations are conducted with fixed wing RPA (25 kilograms (kg) or 75kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW)) up to 4500 feet above mean sea level (AMSL) within the surrounding class G airspace. The approved area extends approximately 13 nautical miles (n miles) north and 13 n mile west of Coominya aerodrome.
All fixed wing RPA are equipped with an ADS-B transponder, strobe and navigation lights.
RPA pilots monitor and make very high frequency (VHF) broadcasts on Coominya common traffic advisory frequency (CTAF) (126.7), and monitor and transmit as necessary on Amberley Clearance Delivery (134.6) and Brisbane Centre (121.2). Position broadcasts will also be made on Watts Bridge CTAF (127.3) when operating within 10 n mile of Watts Bridge.
Remote pilots will respond to any traffic with RPA position and intentions, engage in procedural de-confliction whenever necessary and give way to crewed aircraft. Crewed aircraft fitted with ADS-B transponders or pilots publishing their position using the OzRunways electronic flight bag (EFB) will be visible to our remote pilots on our traffic displays.
