Multiple Temporary Restricted Areas (TRAs) to be established at Surfers Paradise Beach for Pacific Airshow Gold Coast 2024.
The 2nd annual Pacific Airshow is being operated in coordination with the City of Gold Coast, Major Events Gold Coast, Destination Gold Coast, Tourism and Events Queensland, the Queensland government, and Australian Defence, and in accordance with the Queensland Major Events Act.
Multiple TRAs are proposed in the vicinity of Surfers Paradise Beach to ensure safe separation of airshow display aircraft from other aircraft. The TRAs may be activated up to 30 minutes prior to practice and display times and may impact other operations in Brisbane and Gold Coast airspace, including at Gold Coast (YBCG), Southport (YSPT) and Sea World Heliport (YSWD).
Details of the proposed TRAs, as well as illustrations, are provided below (note that these are subject to change, refer to NOTAM and AIP SUP for finalised dimensions). The TRAs will extend at most 5 nautical miles from the waterfront of Surfers Paradise Beach, over both water and land. The proposed TRAs are centred at Cavill Avenue (280006S 1532617E) with a maximum upper limit of Flight Level 160.
The TRAs will only be activated during practice and display times as follows (subject to change, refer to NOTAM for finalised timings):
A universal communication station (UNICOM) will operate on Very-High Frequency (VHF) 119.0MHz during TRA activation periods, including buffer periods before and after the activation times to assist in traffic separation. An Airservices representative will also be on-site during TRA activation periods. Priority will be given to passenger transport operations, as well as to any aircraft with a declared emergency or operating in the preservation of life or property (medivac, fire and flood recovery, police, search and rescue). Full details of arrangements and procedures, including any local traffic restrictions in Brisbane and Gold Coast airspace, will be published via an AIP SUP prior to the event.
Note: The availability of some instrument flight procedures (IFP) at YBCG will be impacted during TRA activation. Airservices will publish guidance separately as to which IFP will be impacted and when, as well as some temporary IFP that have been specifically developed, via AIP SUP prior to the event.
