Temporary Danger Area - Canungra Spandicup 2024 Paragliding Competition

The organiser of the Canungra Spandicup paragliding competition, with support from the Canungra Hang Gliding Club and the Sports Aviation Federation of Australia (SAFA), will be running the competition from 28 September 2024 to 6 October 2024. To support this, SAFA is applying for the establishment of a TDA in Class G airspace over the main area of competition operations for the duration of the competition. This consultation is to seek feedback on the proposed establishment of a TDA in support of the Canungra Spandicup paragliding competition.

The Canungra Spandicup 2024 is a World Air Sports Federation (FAI) sanctioned, paragliding cross-country racing competition. The competition will run from 9 am AEST on Saturday 28 September to 5 pm AEST on Sunday 6 October 2024.@@ A maximum of 80 paraglider aircraft will be competing, flying daily tasks from 9 am AEST to 5 pm AEST.

The task will be confined to the volume of Class G airspace enclosed by the area outlined in the attached diagram.

In addition to the TDA, SAFA have applied for a NOTAM and an exemption for competing pilots from the carriage and use of VHF radio communications whilst flying. Properly authorised ground-based operators will monitor and conduct VHF communications and relay information to pilots via UHF radio transmissions.
