The Office of Airspace Regulation (OAR) intends to declare a temporary danger area at Albury Aerodrome (YMAY).
Staffing limitations at the Albury aerodrome air traffic control tower have resulted in ongoing variations to the provision of air traffic services.
To seek industry feedback on the establishment of a Temporary Danger Area (TDA) at Albury aerodrome (YMAY) to highlight heightened risk to flying operations during periods of absence of a Class D air traffic control (ATC) service.
In accordance with its functions under section 11 of the Airspace Act 2007, the OAR has determined that a Class D ATC service is to be provided at YMAY during the following hours as promulgated in ERSA:
NB All times one hour earlier during daylight savings.
Ongoing staffing limitations at YMAY ATC tower have resulted in variations to the provision of air traffic services.
To increase awareness amongst pilots of the potential dangers present, the OAR intends to declare a TDA encompassing the Class D airspace managed by YMAY tower during those periods when tower services would ordinarily be available, but will in fact not be. It is proposed that the TDA is active from 1600 UTC 7 March 2023, subject to stakeholder feedback. A draft NOTAM (to be raised on the Melbourne FIR) is provided below for reference.
