A proposed airspace management solution to support the safe launch of the Koonibba Rising Rocket (KRR) from the Koonibba Test Range between 14 and 30 November 2024.

    The issue

Proposed declaration of temporary restricted area (TRA) surrounding the Koonibba Test Range on up to five notified occasions between 14 November and 30 November 2024. Notification of final TRA enforcement windows by NOTAM at approximately 2 days before the launch of a sub-orbital rocket. Airservices Australia to serve as Controlling Authority for the TRA.

    Purpose

A proposal to declare a single temporary restricted area to ensure safe separation between aircraft and a sub-orbital rocket launched from the Koonibba Test Range in South Australia, between 14 November and 30 November 2024. Southern Launch requests feedback on the potential impacts of the proposed airspace management solution.

    Proposal

Southern Launch is seeking feedback on the potential impacts of a proposed temporary restricted area (TRA) to be enforced on up to five notified occasions between 14 November and 30 November 2024. The TRA is required to ensure the safe separation between aircraft and Southern Launch's Koonibba Rising Rocket (KRR) to be launched to an altitude of approximately 40 kilometers from the Koonibba Test Range, SA 5690.

The TRA is defined to conservatively encompass the hazard area for the launching rocket. Airservices Australia will serve as Controlling Authority for the TRA, and aircraft will not be permitted to transit the TRA airspace during the period of enforcement. TRA enforcement will be kept to a safe minimum, but may be in place for several hours during one or more windows on each planned launch day, with final timings communicated by NOTAM in the days leading up to a launch attempt.

Please refer to the attachments for the coordinate boundary of the proposed TRA and supporting imagery. Southern Launch will notify the public of the target return date on its website, alongside providing the most current information on the planned airspace management solution.

Please contact Eamon Lawson at eamon.lawson@southernlaunch.space should you wish to receive direct updates on mission timings or to provide feedback on this proposal.
