Proposed rocket launches from surface (SFC) to Flight Level (FL) 330. 12.5 nautical miles (n mile) to the north northeast of White Cliffs Aerodrome.

    The issue

A Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) extending 8 n mile from the launch site (30°39'53.4"S 143°11'46.9"E) from SFC to FL125 will be established for a period inclusive of 26 April 2025 – 28 April 2025. This will support rocket launching activities as part of the 2025 Australian Universities Rocketry Competition (AURC) as well as the Endeavour Aerospace Cup.

    Approximate Timings:

    • 26 April 2025: 0900 – 1900 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) (Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) + 10)
    • 27 April 2025: 0900 – 1900 AEST (UTC+10)
    • 28 April 2025: 0900 – 1900 AEST (UTC+10)

The 3-day launch window is required to support the competition over the three days it is intended to run as well as mitigated the risk of adverse weather.

The vehicles flying will be powered by Solid Rocket Motors (SRMs) and will be aiming to fly as close to the competition categories of 10,000 feet and 30,000 feet as possible.

    Proposed TRA

    Purpose

Proposed TRA to support rocket launches from SFC to FL330. 12.5 n mile to the north northeast of White Cliffs Aerodrome.

    Proposal

Endeavour Aerospace is seeking stakeholder input concerning the following, please provide feedback as this will ensure a consideration can be made on such issues during the assessment process. Safety, environment, national security, equity of airspace, and any activities schedules for the same volume of airspace over the same period.

Endeavour Aerospace is seeking to conduct high-powered rocket launches at Caradoc Station approximately 12.5 n mile to the north northeast (NNE) of White Cliffs Aerodrome on 26 April 2025 to the 28 April 2025.

AvSEF members should check Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) closer to the date to confirm whether the activity is proceeding. The proponent is in the process of conducting consultation regarding the activity with known airspace users such as commercial airlines and other stakeholders.

The three launch windows are required due to possible delays with the flight or due to adverse weather. As part of procedures for the launch activity, contact will be made with Airservices Australia 2 hours before the opening of the launch window to ensure activation of the TRA and that there are no objections.

In addition to this, Class G Airspace will be monitored for aircraft before and during the launch activities. This will include maintaining a visual watch of the airspace, monitoring Very High Frequency (VHF) Radio transmissions and finally monitoring automatic dependent surveillance – broadcast (ADS-B) transmission from the area.
