A number of rocket launches are planned from 14 to 26 May 2025 and a temporary restricted area (TRA) is proposed.

    Purpose

Rocket launches planned up to 110,000 feet at Tolarno Station.

    Airspace 1
    Airspace 2

    Proposal

Rocket launches are proposed at Tolarno Station, which is approximately 28.5 nautical miles (n mile) from Menindee Aerodrome (YMED) at a bearing of 149 degrees. 3 to 6 launches will occur between 14 May 2025 and 26 May 2025 to approximately 110,000 feet.

The rockets will be launched separately in launch windows between 0800 – 1700 local time (Australian Eastern Standard Time (UTC + 10)). The multiple windows are due to potential preparation delays and adverse weather conditions.

As part of the procedures for the launch activity, a process will be established with Airservices for notifications of each rocket launched into controlled airspace. This will confirm activation of the TRA and ensure no objection to the launch timing.

Additionally, Class G Airspace will be monitored for aircraft before and during the launch activities.

To mitigate residual airspace risks posed by the activity, a TRA is proposed from surface (SFC) to Flight Level (FL) 125 within Class G airspace, and from FL125 to the maximum altitude in the controlled airspace above.

The following information is relevant to the proposed NOTAMs:

    TRA - Class G

    • Lateral Limits: 17 n mile radius of 32°46'43"S 142°41'56"E
    • Vertical Limits: SFC to FL125
    • Controlling Authority: Victorian Rocketry Association.

    TRA - CTA

    • Lateral Limits: 17 n mile radius of 32°46'43"S 142°41'56"E
    • Vertical Limits: FL125 to UNL
    • Controlling Authority: Airservices Operations Management.

Aviation State Engagement Forum members should check NOTAMs closer to the date to confirm whether the activity will proceed.
