A temporary restricted area (TRA) is proposed for the Learmonth Air Weapons Range (LAWR) planned activities in April 2025.

    The issue

The Australian Defence Force requests feedback on a proposed which is wholly contained within extant restricted airspace to support activation of the LAWR in April 2025.

Some key details of the proposal include:
    • TRA proposed to address classification of extant airspace that may affect ability to operate weapons systems in the LAWR
    • TRA proposed to minimise airspace activated and avoid partial activation of larger extant airspace
    • TRA may be active coincident with other partial activations to support other Air Force training
    • air routes will remain available for access to RAAF Learmonth.

    Proposal

To achieve the objectives of an upcoming activity, a TRA, wholly contained within the bounds of R860 and M869, is required to provide a flying and non-flying buffer around the LAWR. The airspace is approximately 10 nautical miles by 12 nautical miles and will be activated by notice to airmen (NOTAM) up to 7000 feet above mean sea level (A070) for up to 16-hours per day between 3 - 18 April 2025.
