Airlines of Tasmania (Par Avion) is seeking feedback to expand Ralphs Bays Training Area (D316) in Tasmania.

    The issue

Due to population growth in the existing training area over Ralphs Bay, flying training providers are receiving increased noise complaints.

    Purpose

    • D316 has been established for many years and is generally confined to the Peninsula of South Arm, and within it, Ralphs Bay, up to the Hobart Control Zone.
    • The purpose of the proposal to expand Ralphs Bays Training Are is to cater to more traffic and address increased noise complaints, especially from the Sandford Area.

    Proposal

    • Airlines of Tasmania is seeking feedback to expand Ralphs Bays Training Area (D316) in Tasmania.
    • The proposed expansion to D316 is displayed in figure 1 below. It involves shifting the existing horizontal boundary from Opossum Bay - south of South Arm - Cape Contrariety - Cape Deslacs, to instead be Opossum Bay - Dennes Point - South of Betsy Island - Mt Communication (PAKAU Waypoint) - Cape Deslacs. No change in vertical limits is proposed.
    • Alternatively, the change could shift the danger area to Droughty Point - Dennis Point (or via Opossum Bay) - Mt Communication (PAKTU) - Droughty Point.
    • Remaining within gliding range of land would need consideration to facilitate single engine operations, as well as interaction with the LAVOP instrument flight rules waypoint (noting 5000 feet above mean sea level is the upper vertical limit of the danger area).
