The Joint Airspace Control Cell (JACC) requests feedback on a proposed temporary restricted area (TRA) in support of Exercise HIGH SIERRA 2023 to the west of R737.
This proposal notes the following key issues:
JACC requests feedback on a proposed TRA to encompass military flying activities for Exercise HIGH SIERRA 2023 to the west of R737.
TRA-PORCUPINE is proposed for the period 19 June – 05 July 2023, with expected activation times of 2330 – 0230Z and 0330 – 0700Z Monday to Thursday, 2330 – 0300Z on Fridays, and no flying on weekends. This will be confirmed by aeronautical information package supplements (AIP SUP) and NOTAM.
TRA-PORCUPINE has been designed to occupy the same vertical limits as R737, which will be activated up to FL500. Furthermore, the lateral dimensions of TRA-PORCUPINE have been designed to remain clear of air routes W387 and B587. Extant diversion routes around R737 outlined in North Queensland MATS SUPP are not affected by TRA-PORCUPINE.
Access to TRA-PORCUPINE, and Townsville Restricted Areas (TLX) by non-military aircraft is not available except for aircraft with a declared emergency or operating in the preservation of life or property (Medivac, fire and flood recovery, police, search and rescue). Refer to Figure 1 and 2 for a depiction of TRA-PORCUPINE.
